M.2 DRIVES AND WHY WE LOVE THEM

M.2 DRIVES

These thin, flat, wafer thin marvels have replaced the big, clunky mechanical drives of old and the much, much faster SSD Drives that look like a flattened pack of cards.
Instead of passing their information down a cable that is plugged into the motherboard, thee little beauties plug straight into the motherboard for super fast performance. How fast? Well lets look….

For simplicity in understanding the speeds we are talking about, I will change MB/s to Miles Per Hour, as most of us understand this better as a descriptor of speed.

Old Clunky Hard Drives transfer data to the motherboard at around 150 mph.
These were replaced for general use by SSD which max out at just over 500 mph.
Then the first few M.2 Drives came along and they would rattle the roof with speeds of over 2,000 mph.
The latest M.2 drives, and the ones we prefer to supply reach speeds of over 7,000 mph, an increase of around 4,500% from the old clunky drives.
